Ian Maxwell's latest book will be of interest to novice genealogists starting out on the ancestral trail. The book provides a walk-through of available
records, with information on How to Start your research, the Administrative Divisions of Ireland, Civil Registration &
Parish Registers, Census Returns & their Substitutes. Later Chapters provide a brief introduction into lesser-known
records, including Election, School, Workhouse & Military Records. Chapters are very consise, averaging no more than 6-8 pages,
which makes for light, but nevertheless informative reading.

This book does not cover all townlands in Ulster. Only a few Townlands in Counties

Harvest Home: The Last Sheaf.
A delightful collection of writings of T.G.F. Patterson, who was Curator of Armagh Museum
from 1930-1970. The collection of writings covers County Armagh, and includes chapters on 17th & 18th Century Outlaws,
the Royal School, Armagh City Streets., The Towns of Lurgan, Benburb, Castledillon, Loughgall & Richhill.
Through the late Mr Patterson’s writings, the reader obtains a wonderful insight into Armagh life in days gone by.
This book was published in 1975, and Armagh County Museum may still have a copy or two for sale.

The contents of this book are very technical, but if your ancestors lived in Armagh City,
then you may find a reference to the house where they lived.
The research for this book was undertaken up to 1991, and the information on the state of the buildings
was correct at that time.

Castlederg at the time he wrote the book. The book provides a useful insight into the history of Castlederg
& Ardstraw, from early times, through to the 1950s, with chapters on the effects of the famine,
education, halls & houses, and life sketches to name but a few.
